One of the primary goals of the NMPT program is to train T32 students to engage in translational rehabilitation research, which is why you have been asked to identify a translational mentor.
For basic science trainees, having a clinical experience is crucial to understanding the context of human disease and illness and for developing interdisciplinary communication and teamwork.
For clinical trainees, you should develop an experience in a biomedical lab to understand the fundamentals of basic rehabilitation research.
Requirements for the translational rehabilitation research experience include: 1) shadowing/working with your translational mentor, their team, and/or another identified team to understand the culture and its norms, and 2) maintaining a reflective diary with entries made on activities and experiences, which you can enter in the box below. The amount of translational training experiences should total about 10hrs/semester.
