Leah Mathews

How did it feel to learn that you were selected for his award?

Being selected for the Joan Wynne Mathews Scholarship Award is such an honor, and I feel truly blessed to have been the recipient. I’m so grateful that the work I have done for my community is being recognized in this way.

What do you look forward to most as a future Physical Therapist?

I look forward to making meaningful connections with my future patients. Physical Therapy is one of the few health professional fields that allows you to make a real connection with your patient, which is a big reason why I chose to go into this field.

In what ways do you demonstrate leadership, public service, and perseverance in pursuit of your education?

I try to stay very active in my community and take leadership roles where I can. I strongly believe the lessons I learned through those opportunities got me to where I am today and are the reason that I will become a successful PT. Despite all the obstacles that come my way, I try to push through to accomplish my educational goals because I know in the end it will pay off.

How will receiving this award help you as a DPT student?

This award will help me worry less about paying for school and more about studying to become the best PT I can be. It motivates me to study harder and work towards my dreams.

What would you like to say to the donors of this scholarship?

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to achieve my goals and for believing in me! This scholarship highlights the importance of service and that is something near and dear to my heart!
