DPT students attend PPMD Conference

Last week, second-year DPT students had a unique “field trip” experience and were able to attend the 2019 Project Parent Muscular Dystrophy Annual Conference in Orlando as a part of their pediatrics course with Dr. Claudia Senesac.

The annual conference brings together researchers, pharmaceutical companies, and families worldwide to present the latest treatments and strategies in their search for a cure for DMD. This opportunity allowed the students to learn first-hand about this devastating and rare disease. Top researchers investigating DMD described their research, clinical trials, FDA regulations, as well as parent and patient testimony about this all-encompassing fatal disease and the urgency to find a cure.

This year was the 25th anniversary of PPMD and the conference hosted over 750 individuals. This organization supports education and research locally, throughout communities, nationally, and internationally – helping to advance our understanding of this disease and brings families, professionals, and researchers together as a team.
