Kathye Light is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and a clinical consultant to the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Hospital. Dr. Light’s teaching responsibilities are primarily in the Rehabilitation Science Doctoral program. She advises and supervises numerous PhD students. Dr. Light's research interests are in motor behavior problems of elderly patients, particularly those with chronic balance problems, cerebral vascular disease, Parkinson's disease, and frailty.

Currently, Dr. Light is the Principal Investigator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded five year research grant, The Stroke I.M.P.A.C.T. Study (Improving Motor Performance Applying Constraint Therapy.) This three site study; University of Florida, University of South Carolina and Colorado State University began the summer of 2005 and will explore and quantify the efficacy of CIMT on subjects with upper extremity effects of stroke. Two groups, one which previously received CIMT and another that has not, will be trained both in the Lab and in a lab supervised at home therapy programs to determine the variable outcomes of these different approaches.

Dr. Light also serves currently as Coprincipal Investigator with Dr. Mark Bishop on the Florida Department of Health Biomedical Research Program grant, The Link Between Smoking and Recovery from Frailty in Older Floridians. In addition, Dr. Light initiated and continues to serve as consultant and mentor for the Gait and Balance Clinic at the Veterans Health System. [full CV]
