- Dr. Fox’s primary research interests focus on motor control and recovery following neurologic injury and disease. Her research represents an interdisciplinary, translational approach to investigating neural mechanisms underlying movement control and the use of activity-based interventions to restore function. The specific objectives of her research are to: 1) identify neural mechanisms associated with motor function and recovery, 2) develop innovative approaches for enhancing walking control and recovery, including community ambulation, 3) investigate and implement novel technologies, such as virtual reality and internet based communications, to enhance the delivery and effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions. Dr. Fox’s current funded projects focus on the use of virtual reality and game technology to enhance walking rehabilitation for children and activity-based interventions to restore gait adaptability and identifying associated neural pathways in adults with incomplete spinal cord injury.
